TYLER SUMMERS >>
Nashville based saxophonist Tyler Summers is no stranger to the stage. Recently named Galaxie's Rising Star at the National Jazz Awards in Canada, over the last 3 years, Tyler has toured with Canadian country star Johnny Reid, and backed up artists ranging from Texas indie band Spoon, to the queen of indie rock herself, Feist. Tyler has made appearances on The Tonight Show with David Letterman, The Today Show, and the nationally televised Canadian Country Music Awards.
A graduate of North Texas State, Tyler spent two years in the Grammy winning One O'Clock Lab Band, where he performed with internationally renowned artists Chris Potter, Bob Brookmeyer, Maria Schneider, Dick Oatts, and Tom "Bones" Malone (Letterman Orchestra, Saturday Night Live). Compositionally, Tyler's music can be heard on the One O'Clock release "Lab 2003", as well as "Lodestar" by Stockton Helbing (former musical director and drummer for the late Maynard Ferguson). In 1998, Tyler was named Yamaha Rising Star of Canada and in 2002, Downbeat's Outstanding College Soloist.
Tyler continues to perform with his Trio across North America, and maintains an active clinic and adjudication schedule. Some stops have included the Brandon Jazz Festival, the Envision Jazz Festival, and the International Association of Jazz Education Conference.
